Starting with SharePoint 2013 Microsoft has made search easier to customize and utilize for a multitude of uses. Using the Search web parts you can tune your search center to return better results, setup a site or content specific search center, create a people or department directory, or even create custom applications such as an organizational classifieds site. Also, introduced with SharePoint 2013 was the content search web part (CSWP) which is considered the new Swiss Army Knife for data display. The CSWP can be used to show specified, dynamic, or personalized content using display templates which allow for customized data display. We will cover how to use the CSWP to show feeds of blog posts, discussions, documents, and announcements. - Technical Level: 300
Document management is one of the most used features for most organizations but often very little time is devoted to configuring it. In this session Derek Nishino will present and demonstrate an approach to creating dynamic, interactive maps in SharePoint using SVG images driven by data in a SharePoint list. The solution presented includes an interactive map of the United States in which clicking on a State drills into a map of that State with Counties outlined and colored according to data stored in a SharePoint list. The session is based on a real-life project and will include a discussion of the business use case, solution components, design decisions, resources, and a high-level walkthrough of the CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery code implemented. The techniques in this session are not just applicable to maps but can be applied to any SVG image to create colorful, interesting, and interactive interfaces within SharePoint. This session is not just for developers. Most of the time will be spent on the use case and solution design rather than a detailed code walkthrough. Technical Level: 300

Once upon a time, there lived a sad mutant frog who felt he had no purpose in life. Until one day, he was discovered by the SharePoint team to give magical High Fives to employees throughout the land. Everyone rejoiced about how simple it was to recognize their fellow workers and everyone lived happily ever after using SharePoint. Follow Sandra and Tom as they tell the story of how they used SharePoint to develop a recognition and rewards program for their company. They took a stated need from the business and brainstormed a solution from concept to theme to functionality in 30 minutes. Less than 24 hours later, they were demoing the site for the business owners. With our mutant frog giving out "High Fives", the feedback was overwhelming positive, and the site is now available for use to over 5000 employees. Technical Level: 200
Catheryn is the SharePoint / O365 Manager at ESCO Corporation Global Headquarters in Portland, OR. She has spent the last 7 years in SharePoint as a business / technology liaison helping with migrations, SharePoint solutions, and training. As a member of the local Portland IT community for many years, Dorie has been training and demonstrating Microsoft SharePoint, Office, and now Power BI and the ever-growing Apps world as a professional and business user. Her background in technical writing was an excellent training ground for analyzing applications and then presenting them in an easy-to-absorb manner, hopefully having a bit of fun along the way.
